HealthDayA report published today inshowed that a combination of lifestyle and medical interventions is a safer choice for treating erectile dysfunction in men.
“Men taking medications containing sildenafil as PDE-5 inhibitors (for erectile dysfunction) may experience an increased risk of having sex and may be at an increased risk of developing erectile dysfunction,” the study’s authors state.
The findings of this study raise concerns for those affected by ED, including those who take medication containing sildenafil, or sildenafil citrate. These medications can have serious and sometimes fatal effects on sexual function, and men taking PDE-5 inhibitors (for erectile dysfunction) may be at an increased risk of having erectile dysfunction.
The findings are based on a study published in theJournal of Sexual Medicinein 2018, which identified more than 12 million erectile dysfunction-related deaths among men aged 20 to 50.
In 2017, the World Health Organization reported that erectile dysfunction has risen worldwide, and as many as 1 million erectile dysfunction cases were reported each year.
Sildenafil citrate, the active ingredient in Viagra, is a PDE-5 inhibitor, which increases blood flow to the penis during sexual stimulation.
